The Defense Ministry announces the launch of a new mobile app, Shikum.Me, aimed at streamlining access to rehabilitation services for wounded soldiers coping with post-traumatic stress disorder, mental health injuries or head trauma.
The app, developed by the ministry’s Rehabilitation Department, allows eligible users to use an annual NIS 6,000 ($1,900) allocation for alternative treatments and sports activities through a digital wallet, without submitting receipts or waiting for reimbursements.
The service includes a nationwide network of more than 5,000 therapists and providers, offering options ranging from complementary medicine, including acupuncture and massage, to fitness and outdoor activities.
According to the ministry, eligible patients will begin receiving their annual allocation through the app starting this month. There will be a three-month transition period during which users may continue submitting receipts from treatments while adjusting to the new system.
“The new app was developed through close listening to the field and focus groups with wounded individuals, with the aim of making it easier for them to use the benefits they are entitled to,” says deputy head of the Rehabilitation Department Shirit Kedron. “We expanded the services and added new sports activities, all through virtual currency, without requiring them to pay out of pocket or submit invoices. Users will also be able to view therapists’ availability, see service quality ratings, and track their remaining balance.”
