Police have arrested a man on suspicion of incitement to terror after he called on social media to hunt down Israeli West Bank settlers “like pigs.”
The 39-year-old man, from the northern town of Maghar, made a post that read, “We have to hunt them down like pigs, God will curse you all so that not a single settler pig is left,” according to police.
The post was made in reference to Friday’s gunfight that killed two Israelis and four Palestinians in the northern West Bank, police say, which broke out after settlers illegally entered the Palestinian village of Tell.
Officers who raided the man’s home to arrest him discovered two M16 assault rifle magazines full of ammunition and confiscated them, police add.
He was brought to court this morning for a remand hearing, where a judge decided to extend his detention until Tuesday.
Maghar has a mixed Druze, Christian, and Muslim population; the police did not indicate what the background of the perpetrator was.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
