Sara Netanyahu, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s wife, is pushing officials in the National Security Council and the Shin Bet to formally back an expansion of the security detail for her and her two sons for the next five years, Channel 12 reports.
She wants the expanded security to go into effect immediately, regardless of the results of the upcoming elections in which her husband is locked in a close campaign, according to the report.
The NSC and the Shin Bet have both refrained from offering their professional opinion on the matter for weeks, according to the outlet.
They recognize the seriousness of potential threats, according to two sources, but see no reason to set security arrangements for the next five years.
The Ministerial Committee for Shin Bet Affairs will meet tomorrow in Jerusalem to discuss the request, according to the report. The domestic intelligence agency will likely agree to increase security until the threat diminishes, without committing to a specific time frame.
The PMO denies the report.
