Students in Iran hold anti-regime rallies on campuses, opposition outlet reports

Students at universities in the Iranian cities of Tehran and Mashhad hold protests against the Islamic Republic, according to the opposition Iran International outlet.

At Tehran’s Beheshti University, students hold a sit-in in memory of those slain during last month’s crackdown on anti-regime protests, as well as in support of students imprisoned, a statement by the Student Union cited by the outlet says.

Students also protest at the city’s Amirkabir University of Technology, footage shows, with demonstrators yelling “long live the king,” in reference to the ousted monarch’s son, Reza Pahlavi.

The Student Union later says that security forces blocked the school’s exit and detained students.

According to Iran International, the protests at Tehran’s Sharif University turned into clashes when the Basij militia attacked the rally. Footage published by the outlet apparently shows protesters chanting, “shameless,” against the militia operatives.

At Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, footage obtained by Iran International shows students chanting “freedom.”
