Thousands of Palestinians protest near Gaza security fence

Thousands of Gazans are demonstrating near the security fence with Israel as a six-week protest in which Gazans plan to set up camp near the barriers gets underway.

Dubbed the “March of Return,” the protest is backed by Gaza’s ruling regime, the Hamas terror group, and marks Land Day, when Palestinians commemorate the Israeli government’s expropriation of Arab-owned land in the Galilee on March 30, 1976, and ensuing demonstrations in which six Arab Israelis were killed.

The camp protest comes amid rising tensions as the United States prepares to move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem in May.

Today is also the eve of the week-long Passover holiday.
