US defense secretary speaks with Gallant, stresses protection of civilians

Shortly after leaving Israel, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin speaks with his Israeli counterpart, Yoav Gallant, his office says.
According to the Pentagon, Austin reiterates the US’s “unwavering commitment to Israel’s security.”
Austin also stresses “the importance of adhering to the law of war, including civilian protection obligations, and addressing the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.”
The secretary also updates Gallant on US efforts “to continue flowing air defense capabilities and munitions” to Israel.
