The White House posts the results of a poll appearing to show a majority of Americans support the memorandum of understanding that the US inked with Iran last month.

The timing of the post is peculiar, given that the poll was published on June 29 before the latest escalation between the two countries, which have subsequently declared they’re no longer beholden to the MOU’s terms due to purported violations by the other side.

However, posting the poll now could be an indication that the White House recognizes the American public’s weariness over further fighting in the Middle East, even as US President Donald Trump has threatened to massively intensify strikes against Tehran if another deal is not reached soon.

The poll refers to the MOU as a “peace deal to end the war,” though the agreement signed between the sides instead included the launch of talks aimed at reaching a deal to permanently end the conflict.
