A woman in her 40s was shot dead in her car last night in Kafr Qasim, first responders say. Police arrested two relatives on suspicion of involvement.
Medics arrived in the central Arab city to find the victim without any signs of life in a car outside her house. They pronounced her dead at the scene.
The victim is identified by Arabic outlets as Nihaya Jawabra. One of the detained suspects is the woman’s 17-year-old son, Kan reports.
She is the second woman from Kafr Qasim to be killed this year in an apparent femicide, after the alleged murder of Marlene al-Touri by her ex-husband last month.
Ten Arab Israeli women and one young girl have been killed so far this year, as the homicide rate continues to soar in Arab townships.
They are among 117 members of the minority killed over the course of 2026, according to data from the Abraham Initiatives coexistence group.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
