President Shimon Peres on Wednesday referred to Syrian President Bashar Assad as “more brutal” and “less intelligent” than his father and predecessor, the late Hafez Assad, Ynet News reported.

While on a tour of the Golan Heights with IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz,  Peres stated that whatever happens in Syria will influence Israel’s military and security plans.

The president added that the fall of Assad will be a death blow to Hezbollah. He said that Hassan Nasrallah, head of the Lebanese-based terrorist organization, is aware of the tough position in which he finds himself.

“Until now, we have avoided striking strategic targets in Lebanon, but if missiles are fired at us we will know how to respond,” Peres said.
