Presented by Fathom Events, in partnership with Guggenheim Entertainment, “The MeshugaNutcracker!” will be shown in US cinemas for one night on Tuesday, December 19, at 7 p.m. local time.

Audiences around the United States can now join in a nationwide candle lighting and celebration of Hanukkah with “The MeshugaNutcracker!” This delightful, family-friendly musical pulls out all the stops to celebrate the festival of lights. Complete with dancing dreidels, singing sufganiot (jelly doughnuts…yum!), and a cast of eight triple-threat performers, this is the only show of its kind. Now, you can sing the songs of Judah Maccabee along with a brand new Klezmerized score using Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet BUT with lyrics to celebrate the many facets of the holiday.

“The MeshugaNutcracker!” is written by Scott Guggenheim with lyrics by Shannon Guggenheim and music adapted by Stephen Guggenheim. The production, recorded before a live audience, will be presented in select cinemas nationwide as part of Fathom Events giving audiences, young and old alike, the chance to see a Hanukkah show during the holiday season. By melding Tchaikovsky’s immortal melodies with Hanukkah, this “lovingly loopy musical creates a treat for the whole family, regardless of their religious beliefs,” remarked the Los Angeles Times. “It is this high audience regard that makes ‘The MeshugaNutcracker’ such an enchanting festival of lighthearted glee and meaningful warmth.”

“The MeshugaNutcracker!” is a full-length musical comedy that features the wonderfully silly sensibilities of the folklore of Chelm (a fictional town of fools) underscored by an invigorating Klezmer-ized orchestration of Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite,” including original lyrics that celebrate Chanukah. Judah Maccabee’s triumphant saga and accounts of perseverance during the Holocaust as well as the celebration of the first Chanukah in the new state of Israel emerge with a genuine sense of wonder as the Chelmniks tell eight stories that pay tribute to the holiday. Add in Emmy Award-winning and Broadway star Bruce Vilanch for an on-screen guest appearance and you have the perfect recipe for a holiday outing! Jews and non-Jews alike will delight in this original musical celebrating all things Chanukah.

Tickets for “The MeshugaNutcracker!” can be purchased online by visiting www.FathomEvents.com or at participating theater box offices (theaters and participants are subject to change). Fans throughout the US will be able to enjoy the event in more than 350 movie theaters through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network (DBN).
