In a raid on the city hall of Kfar Saba, north of Tel Aviv, Monday, police and Tax Authority agents detained several city officials, including at least one characterized as a “senior” figure, on suspicion of receiving bribes.
In all, at least 14 people are being held in the wide-ranging graft investigation, including the city officials and “individuals with financial interests in the city,” police said.
Among the suspicions against the suspects are bribery, fraud and breach of trust.
The detentions appear to be intended to allow police to conduct a massive search of the suspects’ offices, homes and computers, searches that were undertaken by officers from the Lahav 433 national fraud investigation unit and the Tax Authority immediately after the morning raids.
Several of the suspects are expected to be placed under formal arrest, and will face a remand hearing at the Rishon Lezion Magistrate’s Court.

We can't do this work alone.
The war with Iran has been draining for all of us in Israel. But when I heard about a high casualty incident – ballistic missile impacts in Arad and Dimona that left nearly 200 people wounded – I drank a cup of coffee, packed a bag, and headed south.
There, I spoke with Shilgit, the head of an after-school program for underprivileged youth. Standing outside her destroyed center, Shilgit said it was a miracle that no children were hurt and spoke about the community coming together in the hours since.
As a Times of Israel reporter, I’m committed to telling stories of resilience like Shilgit’s. But my colleagues and I can't do this alone.
