A construction worker was killed Thursday when a wall collapsed on him at a site in the central region city of Bnei Brak.

It was the third death in the construction industry in the past ten days.

Other workers at the site were able to extract the unconscious man, 28, who was trapped under rubble from the collapse on the third floor of the building at the scene of the accident on Rabban Gamliel Street.

But efforts by Magen David Adom and Hatzolah medics to resuscitate him failed and they declared him dead.

Israel Police said it opened an investigation into the incident.

Last week, two construction workers were killed within minutes of each other in separate accidents at different locations.

Deaths of construction workers in Israel are a frequent occurrence, largely because of poorly enforced safety codes.
