Amid report he’s weighing replacing Katz, PM says he’ll solve feud between defense minister, Zamir ‘responsibly’

Amid open tensions between Defense Minister Israel Katz and IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir — and after an Israel Hayom report that the premier is considering replacing Katz with Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar — Benjamin Netanyahu’s spokesman says that the prime minister will responsibly solve the issue.

“It is best not to listen to briefings to journalists by interested parties,” says Netanyahu’s office. “The prime minister is determined to solve the issues, and will solve them in the best way possible.”

Katz and Zamir are fighting openly over the minister’s decision to re-investigate the military’s review of its internal probes into the failures surrounding the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attack. Zamir also accused Katz in a statement on Monday of harming the military’s preparedness by freezing promotions he had made for 30 days.

The fighting has angered Netanyahu. According to the Kan public broadcaster, the prime minister asked the two to cease the public statements against one another, and was particularly irked by Zamir’s long press release about Katz yesterday.
