Anonymous email threatens to bomb JPost editorial offices

Jerusalem Post editor-in-chief Steve Linde filed a complaint with Israel Police on Thursday regarding an anonymous email that was sent to senior editors at the paper on Wednesday threatening to bomb the editorial offices of the newspaper in Jerusalem.

The email, directed at Linde, demanded in broken English that a ransom of $2 million in cash be placed in a specific location in Jerusalem or else the threat will be realized.

Police officers, including cybercrime specialists, came to the Jerusalem editorial offices and questioned employees who received the email. Officers deployed around the building as well as around the paper’s offices in Tel Aviv.

The Post featured a reproduction of a Charlie Hebdo caricature on its front page Thursday, and it was unclear whether the threat was related to the publication of the cartoon.

Linde said, “We take threats like this seriously” but “as a pluralistic paper loyal to its readership, we are committed to freedom of expression and to publishing diverse points of view for our readers.”
