The Bank of Jerusalem sends a message to clients saying there is no suspicion that their money has been embezzled, as rumors continue to circulate surrounding the disappearance of bank employee Mali Yahalomi and her daughter last week in Vienna.
There have been unsubstantiated allegations that a large sum of money was involved in the disappearance, causing the bank’s stock to fluctuate. The bank said in a statement earlier today that there was no connection between the bank and the disappearance.
In the message to clients, the bank says it has conducted an investigation and that customers’ accounts are secure. It says the bank’s operations have been functioning normally.
“Following a deep, systemic investigation conducted by the bank, we would like to clarify unequivocally that there is no suspicion of embezzlement of Bank of Jerusalem clients’ funds,” the message says, according to Ynet. “Clients’ funds are secure and protected, and are held and managed in accordance with the law.”
Yahalomi and her daughter, Liel, went missing in Vienna on Friday, leading to a massive search for their whereabouts. Police placed a gag order on the case this morning.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
