Following a police officer’s fatal shooting of a Bedouin man over the weekend, the Rishon Lezion Magistrate’s Court issues a gag order barring the officer’s name from publication.

The gag order was requested by the Israel Police, says the Department of Internal Police Investigations (DIPI).

He was interrogated by DIPI investigators and ordered to five-day house arrest yesterday, after shooting 36-year-old Muhammad Hussein Tarabin in his home on Saturday evening.

The officer is also banned from entering police stations until next Sunday.

Police arrived at the slain man’s home on Saturday as part of a week-long raid on Tarabin al-Sana, a Bedouin town in the Negev, and said Tarabin was suspected of setting cars alight in nearby Jewish towns.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear and the officer is being investigated for opening fire unlawfully, according to the Department of Internal Police Investigations.

Family members accuse police officers of having cleaned blood from off the floor following the shooting. The DIPI did not indicate that it is investigating him or others on suspicion of tampering with evidence, in response to an inquiry about the matter.
