Foreign worker arrested on suspicion of trying to stab man in his care

Police have arrested a foreign worker on suspicion of abusing and attempting to stab a man under his care with scissors in the latter’s Beit Shemesh home.

Officers came to the victim’s house late last night after being summoned by a medical team who were called to the house, but received no response after knocking on the door. Police found the victim trembling and terrified, law enforcement says.

According to the man’s testimony, the assault took place after he had asked his caregiver to help him take a shower. The caregiver, apparently under the influence of alcohol, initially refused, saying he had already helped him shower in the morning. He eventually agreed to the request and reluctantly took the victim to the bathroom.

The caregiver later returned him to his bed, wet and naked. When the victim requested a towel, the caregiver took scissors and tried to strike the victim in his lower body, police say. The victim fell to the floor in an attempt to dodge the scissors, injuring himself.

The suspect had left the apartment by the time police and paramedics arrived. The victim was swiftly taken to the hospital, police say.

Officers later detained the suspect, who resisted and tried to attack police during the arrest, police add. He was taken to court this morning, where his remand was extended until tomorrow.
