India will soon give final shape to a mutually beneficial free trade agreement with Israel, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi says at a press conference alongside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem.
The two countries will also pursue joint development, production, and transfer of technology in defense, Modi says at the end of his two-day trip to Israel.
Modi also said the visit featured “extensive discussions on regional and global issues,” according to the Indo-Asian News Service.
“Promoting regional connectivity, we will advance with renewed momentum on initiatives such as the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) and India–Israel–UAE–USA (I2U2),” Modi says at the conference, according to the outlet.
He was referring to two US-backed initiatives: the IMEC transport corridor, which aims to connect India to Europe via the Middle East by sea and rail, and I2U2, a strategic partnership between India, Israel, the UAE, and the US centered around economic, technological, energy, and food security cooperation to promote regional stability.
