Talks between Israel and Lebanon in Rome have wrapped up for the day, a spokesperson for Israeli Ambassador to the US Yechiel Leiter, who is leading Jerusalem’s team in the talks, confirms.
A State Department spokesperson says today’s talks “were productive and held in a positive atmosphere.”
“Both sides are eager to move forward. Today’s conversations will continue tomorrow,” the spokesperson adds.
The sides have been discussing implementation of the first batch of Israeli withdrawals from two pilot zones in southern Lebanon.
Israel agreed to the two withdrawals last month as part of its framework deal with Lebanon brokered by the US, but has dragged its feet on implementation.
Talks will pick up tomorrow for a second and final day of this round.
