Lapid: PM must suspend appointment of Braverman as UK envoy after questioning in Bild probe

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should hold off on appointing his chief of staff, Tzachi Braverman, as Israel’s ambassador to the UK after Braverman was detained by police today, Opposition Leader Yair Lapid says.
Braverman was taken in for questioning by police, and his home was searched, over allegations that he attempted to obstruct a probe into the leak of classified intelligence to Bild, a German tabloid.
“In light of the recent developments, the appointment of Tzachi Braverman as ambassador to the UK must be immediately suspended,” says Lapid, the chair of the Yesh Atid party, in a post on X.
“It is unacceptable for someone suspected of involvement in obstructing a serious security investigation to serve as Israel’s representative in one of Europe’s most important countries,” he insists.
Braverman was interrogated by police this morning after Netanyahu’s indicted former spokesman Eli Feldstein claimed last month that Braverman knew of a covert investigation into the leak months before it was publicized and had assured the ex-aide that he’d be able to quash the probe.
The senior Netanyahu aide was tapped to be the next ambassador in London in September.
