Venezuela’s deposed leader Nicolas Maduro has arrived at a New York court to face drug charges, after a brief trip across Lower Manhattan to the courthouse.

After the vehicle carrying Maduro backed into a garage in the courthouse complex, he will be out of public view until he appears in court, which is expected at around noon local time (7 p.m. Israel time).

Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were seized by US forces during a pre-dawn raid Saturday in Caracas and brought to New York to face charges of “narcoterrorism” tied to alleged trafficking of tons of cocaine into the United States.

The UN Security Council will hold an emergency session later today at Venezuela’s request.
