Police say ex-MK Zoabi was under investigation for months

Following the detention of former MK Hanin Zoabi this morning, the head of police investigations in the Northern District indicates that she had been under probe for months as part of a covert investigation.

Without naming Zoabi, Avi Ayash says the investigation was underway for several months in the Northern District police’s investigations and intelligence unit before it became public with her detention this morning.

“It is a serious incident, in which this Nazareth resident delivered extremely problematic remarks and statements that testify to incitement and to this detainee’s desire to identify with a terrorist organization,” he says.

Zoabi is suspected of incitement and identifying with a terrorist organization after speaking to the Palestina Kongress in Vienna last year, where she told the crowd that “it is not Hamas who resisted, it is the Palestinian people, and yes — you cannot differentiate between Hamas and the Palestinian people.”

She went on to say that “those who entered on October 7, they didn’t enter the Israeli borders, they entered their own land.”
