Report: Netanyahu took control of Edelstein’s conscription bill, is threatening to fire him

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has taken matters into his own hands and is personally making revisions to Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee chair Yuli Edelstein’s ultra-Orthodox enlistment bill, the Haaretz newspaper reports, citing an unnamed source from United Torah Judaism.

The report comes after UTJ’s Degel HaTorah faction announced that it would be resigning from the Knesset tonight, as Edelstein had failed to present them with a copy of the legislation.

Netanyahu has been in talks with Edelstein over the issue for the last several hours, and, according to Haaretz, told him that he must present the ultra-Orthodox parties with the watered-down version of the legislation to which he committed last month, on the eve of Israel’s war with Iran, or else he will be fired.
