Rothman says he’s smoothed over disagreements with Knesset legal adviser

Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee chairman Simcha Rothman (Religious Zionism) indicates that he has patched up his relationship with Gur Bligh, the parliamentary panel’s legal adviser, following a public spat on Monday.

Opening a discussion of the coalition’s contentious bill to split the role of the attorney general, Rothman says that “yesterday there was an unfortunate incident in the committee. We are addressing it between ourselves, the legal adviser of the committee and myself. We know how to work things out among ourselves, and I am confident that this is what will happen.”

During remarks from former Likud minister Dan Meridor during yesterday’s committee meeting, Rothman whispered inaudibly to Bligh, who then loudly told the lawmaker: “Don’t threaten me.” It was unclear what Rothman said to Bligh, though after the legal adviser accused him of threats, he said, “I’m sorry?! What are you yelling at me about?”

The discussion was briefly paused during the interaction, after which order was restored and the meeting resumed.
