Russian negotiators arrive in Geneva for Ukraine talks
Russian officials have arrived in the Swiss city of Geneva for talks with US and Ukrainian teams aimed at ending the years-long conflict in Ukraine, a source within the Russian delegation tells journalists.
The talks are taking place in Geneva at the same time as US-Iran negotiations.
The plane carrying the Russians, led by nationalist historian and former culture minister Vladimir Medinsky, landed in Geneva, according to the source.
There is no anticipation of any significant progress on ending the Ukraine war at the meetings in Switzerland as both sides appear to be sticking to their negotiating positions on key issues, despite the United States setting a June deadline to reach a settlement. The future of Ukrainian land that Russia occupies or still covets is a central issue.
