Senior Hamas official tells BBC terror group is likely to reject Trump peace plan

A senior Hamas official tells the BBC that the terror group will likely reject US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza, telling the British network that it “serves Israel’s interests” and “ignores those of the Palestinian people.”

The official added that Hamas opposes several key provisions of the plan.

Those include the call for the group to disarm and the entry of a so-called International Stabilization Force to take control of Gaza as Hamas leaves and the IDF withdraws. Hamas is also presumed to oppose the requirement that it release all 48 hostages it is holding within the first 72 hours after the agreement is adopted.

The release of the hostages and Hamas’s disarmament are among Israel’s core conditions for ending the war. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he has accepted Trump’s plan, which the president unveiled alongside the prime minister at a White House press conference earlier this week.

A range of Arab states and other countries have also praised the plan.

Hamas has said it is examining the plan, and Trump has demanded that it give a response within a few days. A recent Saudi report also indicated Hamas’s skepticism toward the plan.
