Trump: US ‘very closely’ following the ‘terrible situation’ in Belarus
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleUS President Donald Trump says the United States is following events “very closely” in Belarus, the former Soviet nation where pressure has been building on strongman leader Alexander Lukashenko to step down over a disputed election.
Large protests against Lukashenko have been met with a brutal police crackdown, and Washington has already called for him to open talks with civil society.
Trump says it is a “terrible situation,” adding: “We will be following it very closely.”
