Tal Yehoshua Koren was moved to the recovery ward of New Delhi’s Primus Hospital late Monday night, after undergoing hours of surgery to remove shrapnel from her spinal cord, liver, and lungs.
Dr. Arun Bhanot, the surgeon at Primus who operated on Yehoshua Koren, told NDTV that the surgery was successful and that she is in critical but stable condition. Yehoshua Koren is under anesthetic and is expected to wake up within 48 hours, Yedioth Ahronoth reported.
The Israeli Embassy worker, who is the wife of the security attache Alon Yehoshua, was injured in a terror attack in New Delhi earlier on Monday. An assailant on a motorbike affixed explosives to the rear of her car, then sped away as they detonated.
Yehoshua Koren was thrown from the car by the blast, according to some reports. She was evacuated to the local American hospital, Primus.
The Israeli woman was on her way to pick her children up from kindergarten when the attack took place.
Relatives in Israel said they believed she had had a “miraculous” escape. They were waiting to hear when she would be able to come back to Israel.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blamed Iran and Hezbollah for the blast and for a thwarted bombing in Tbilisi, Georgia, at almost the same time. He described Iran as the world’s leading exporter of terrorism and vowed firm, “systematic” action to counter it. “Iran is behind these attacks and it is the largest terror exporter in the world,” he said.
