After US Energy Secretary Chris Wright canceled his visit to Israel last week, Energy Minister Eli Cohen will meet him on Thursday at a regional energy summit in Athens, says Cohen’s office.
US Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, a close ally of US President Donald Trump, will also be at the summit.
Wright backed out of his Israel trip last week after Cohen refused to sign off on a massive gas export agreement recently agreed upon between Jerusalem and Cairo.
This week’s energy summit will also be attended by the Greek and Cypriot energy ministers.
According to the Energy Ministry, the ministers will discuss “promoting regional interests, joint projects in the energy sector, creating an infrastructure corridor from the Middle East to Europe via the Gulf and Israel, and “land connections between Israel and Europe, including electrical cables and natural gas pipeline.”
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
