Ex-chief military prosecutor sharing cell with Histadrut chairman

Ex-chief military prosecutor Col. Matan Solomosh is sharing a prison cell with Histadrut labor federation chairman Arnon Bar-David in Tel Aviv, Hebrew outlets report, after the two were arrested within hours of each other in separate cases.

Solomosh was remanded for two additional days yesterday on suspicion of helping to cover for former military advocate general Maj. Gen. Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi in the Sde Teiman video leak affair. The two military lawyers were arrested Sunday night and were ordered to remain in custody until tomorrow.

Bar-David was apprehended along with dozens of other suspects the next morning when law enforcement raided the labor federation’s offices, as part of a sweeping investigation into alleged corruption. He is to remain in custody for eight days on the order of the Rishon Lezion Magistrate’s Court.

The Histadrut, Israel’s largest labor federation, puts out another statement today announcing that its institutions were operating as usual despite the wave of arrests.

“We at the Histadrut have full confidence in the judicial system and in law enforcement authorities, with whom we cooperate fully and transparently,” the agency says.

“We trust in the integrity of our people and believe that the full picture will become clear in due course,” the federation continues, calling on civic and political parties to “act responsibly, refrain from spreading rumors and avoid drawing premature conclusions.”
