High Court bars far-right party leader Ben Ari from upcoming elections
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleThe High Court of Justice bars the leader far-right Otzma Yehudit party Michael Ben Ari from running in the upcoming elections, and reverses the disqualification of an Arab slate and a far-left Jewish candidate.
In an 8-1 vote, the justices vote in favor of a petition calling for Ben Ari to be disqualified over his anti-Arab views. The Central Elections committee narrowly approved his candidacy earlier this month.
Ben-Ari has come under fire for comments he made about Israeli Arabs, which Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit said earlier this month amount to “incitement to racism”.
The court also votes to reverse the committee’s decision to ban Arab joint slate Ra’am-Balad and Ofer Kasif from running the April election.
