High Court hearing looks at request to find government in contempt over ineffective Haredi draft enforcement

A hearing in the High Court of Justice begins on the request by the Movement for Quality Government in Israel for a finding of contempt of court against the government for failing to draw up effective enforcement measures against ultra-Orthodox men who fail to enlist for compulsory military service.
In November 2025, the High Court ordered the government to draw up policies for enforcing enlistment, specifically regarding social and economic sanctions on draft dodgers, by January 4 this year.
When the government failed to do so, the Movement for Quality Government filed a contempt of court request to the court against the government.
A hearing on the request was originally set for March 1, but was postponed because of the war with Iran that started the previous day.
The government is yet to draw up such enforcement policies.
Supreme Court Deputy President Noam Sohlberg is heading the panel hearing the case, along with justices Daphna Barak Erez, David Mintz, Yael Wilner, and Ofer Grosskopf.
