Turnout in Hungary’s closely watched parliamentary polls hits a record 54 percent at midday, election authorities said, as voters flocked to participate in a ballot that could end nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s 16-year rule.

The noon turnout is considerably higher than the 40 percent seen in the 2022 election, and AFP journalists report seeing queues of people waiting to vote at numerous polling stations.
