Israeli troops operating in Gaza City earlier today killed a Hamas operative who attempted to plant a bomb next to an armored personnel carrier, the military says.
According to the IDF, the troops spotted the operative and opened fire on him as he tried to detonate the bomb against a Namer APC.
A short while later, an additional cell of Hamas gunmen was identified in the area, and the forces called in a drone strike that killed them, the army adds.
The incident took place during operations of the 188th Armored Brigade and Bislamach Brigade — the IDF’s School for Infantry Corps Professions and Squad Commanders — under the 98th Division.
The army issues footage showing the operative who was killed trying to approach the troops, and airstrikes directed by the forces.
These videos issued by the IDF on September 28, 2025, show a Hamas operative attempting to attack troops in Gaza City, and additional airstrikes in the area. (Israel Defense Forces)
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
