More than 250 activists detained by the Israeli Navy on the large flotilla attempting to break the Israeli maritime blockade on the Gaza Strip have so far been processed by police, law enforcement officials say.

According to the organizers of the Global Sumud Flotilla, some 500 activists were aboard the vessels intercepted by the Navy.

More than 600 police officers, along with prison officials and immigration representatives, were deployed to Ashdod Port to receive the detained activists, police say.

Police say that over 250 of the activists underwent a “thorough inspection process,” and were handed over to the Population and Immigration Authority and the Israel Prison Service.

“The operation is continuing at this very moment and will continue into the night until the handling of the last boat in the flotilla is completed,” police add.

The activists are set to be deported from the country.
