Tua Tagovailoa, the starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins, says it would be “sick” to play a football game in Jerusalem.
The US National Football League star makes the comments at a postgame conference following the Dolphins’ victory over the Washington Commanders in Madrid, Spain. The NFL has hosted a series of games in international venues to boost the league’s global profile.
When asked where he’d like to play next, Tagovailoa first names his home US state of Hawaii. The he muses about other locations.
“Shoot, it’d be pretty cool to go play in Jerusalem,” he says. “I don’t know, that’d be sick.”
American football doesn’t have an extensive presence in Israel, though Robert Kraft, a leading Jewish philanthropist who owns the New England Patriots, has made efforts to promote the sport in Jerusalem.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
