NYC Mayor Adams quits reelection bid against anti-Israel Mamdani, boosting pro-Israel Cuomo

New York City Mayor Eric Adams drops his reelection run, in a boost to former governor Andrew Cuomo, an Israel supporter, against the anti-Israel frontrunner, Zohran Mamdani.
Adams was polling in a distant third, weighed down by his dealings with the Trump administration and alleged corruption in the city government and his circle.
Adams announces that he’s quitting the race in a lengthy video posted to social media.
“Some remain unsure of me after the unfortunate events surrounding my federal case. I was wrongfully charged because I fought for this city and if I had to do it again I would fight for New York again,” he says.
“Despite all we’ve achieved I cannot continue my reelection campaign. The constant media speculation about my future and the campaign finance board’s decision to withhold millions of dollars have undermined my ability to raise the funds needed for a serious campaign,” Adams says.
“I hope you will see, despite the headlines and innuendo, I always put you before me,” he adds.
