Suspected car thief dies in crash during chase with cops in Jerusalem, police say

A suspected car thief in Jerusalem’s Katamon neighborhood overnight got into an accident and died after police who were chasing him shot at the vehicle’s tires, police say.

Officers responding to a report of a car theft located the vehicle on the road and ordered it to stop, police say.

The suspect refused and “began fleeing wildly,” including driving in the opposite direction to traffic, “putting officers and drivers in tangible danger,” according to police.

The officers the shot at the car’s tires, but the suspect continued fleeing until he crashed into a column and another car at the a-Tur Junction, police say.

The suspect, who has not yet been identified, was critically wounded and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

An officer and a civilian also received medical treatment for light wounds sustained in the incident, police add.
