Beit Lahiya lies on the northern end of the Hamas-controlled side of the Gaza ceasefire line.
Unverified footage circulating on Arabic media shows a group of people putting a sheet over what appears to be human remains beside an unfinished building as other people rush to the scene.
The IDF said earlier that it had struck a Hamas operative in northern Gaza who was planning an imminent sniper attack on troops. The statement did not specify the location of the strike.
