Eisner will likely be appointed to command position
Officer who struck Danish activist in the face with his rifle may become deputy commander of tactical training center
Lt. Col. Shalom Eisner, who was filmed striking Danish pro-Palestinian activist Andreas Ayas in the face with his rifle several weeks ago, is likely to be appointed as deputy commander of the IDF Ground Forces’ Tactical Training Center in Ze’elim, various Israeli media outlets reported on Friday.
The report contradicts an earlier decision by Chief of Staff Benny Gantz to prohibit Eisner from holding a command position.
Following the April incident, which is still under investigation, Eisner was removed from his post as deputy commander of the Jordan Valley Brigade. The decision was taken by Gantz after consulting with senior IDF staff. A press release announced that Eisner’s removal was “on moral grounds” and that there were “professional and command failures.”
Prior to the inicdent, Eisner had been slated to take over as deputy commander of the IDF Officer School later this year.
