Palestinian media publishes footage from last night showing Israeli soldiers beating and detaining a Palestinian man in Khirbet Umm al-Khair, in the South Hebron Hills in the southern West Bank, while settlers hang Israeli flags on a nearby home in the village.

The footage shows several people exiting a car that arrived in the village and hanging Israeli flags. Seconds later, an IDF jeep arrives and three soldiers get out. A Palestinian man emerges from a nearby house and approaches the area where the soldiers and settlers are standing, with a phone in his hand.

The soldiers immediately move toward him. One of them can be heard saying, “What’s going on? What are you, some kind of gangster?” before striking him in the leg.

The man is then detained by the soldiers, who are heard demanding that he identify himself.

Meanwhile, the settlers continue hanging Israeli flags on the nearby house.

The IDF says its forces were called to respond to reports of a confrontation between Israelis and Palestinians.

“Upon arriving at the scene, the troops acted to disperse the confrontation and briefly detained a Palestinian, who was released shortly afterward,” it says.
