Defense Minister Benny Gantz meets with several former military chiefs and defense ministers, ahead of appointing the next chief of staff of the Israel Defense Forces.

Yesterday, Gantz met with Finance Minister and former defense minister Avigdor Liberman, and today with former army chiefs Gabi Ashkenazi and Shaul Mofaz, his office says.

Lt. Gen. Aviv Kohavi’s tenure ends in January 2023, and Gantz has named Major Generals Eyal Zamir and Herzi Halevi as the final candidates to succeed him.

The meetings are aimed at helping Gantz decide between the candidates for the next IDF chief.
