Infantry officer killed in Gaza by IDF explosive that detonated in apparent accident

An IDF officer was killed in an apparent accident in the southern Gaza Strip today, the military announces.

He is named as Lt. Ori Gerlic, 20, a platoon commander in the Kfir Brigade’s Shimshon Battalion, from Meitar.

According to an initial IDF probe, the officer was killed by an Israeli explosive that detonated for as-of-yet unclear reasons, during operations in Khan Younis. The military says it is investigating the cause of the blast.
