Palestinian Islamic Jihad says Israeli airstrikes on terrorist positions in the Gaza Strip are continuing this afternoon in the western part of the Palestinian enclave, near Gaza City.
Other Gaza media reports also report that large explosions can be heard deep in the Strip.
Earlier, IDF strikes hit a Hamas training facility in eastern Gaza.
The Israeli strikes come in response to a barrage of mortar shells fired at Israel from Gaza earlier this morning, apparently by the Iranian-backed Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror group in revenge for the IDF killing three of its members in a cross-border exchange earlier in the week.
As a matter of policy, the Israeli army considers Hamas, which rules Gaza, to be responsible for any attack emanating from the beleaguered coastal enclave.
