Departing for Dover to participate in the dignified transfer of four American soldiers who were killed last week in the Iran conflict, US President Donald Trump says each of them had spoken about the need to prevent the Islamic Republic from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
“We are going to Dover to honor our heroes. All of them said very strongly we cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon,” Trump claims.
“We’re going to honor them. For me it’s one of the hardest things to do as president,” he adds.
Asked what he’ll tell the families of the fallen soldiers, Trump responds, “All I’m gonna say to them is we love you. We love your child.”
Trump goes on to claim that a new poll showed that while Americans don’t want gas prices to climb, “they’re not against the war” with Iran.
He does not specify what poll he is speaking about, but the comments offer an indication of his thinking regarding the Iran conflict.
To fly to Dover, Trump is using the Qatari-gifted Air Force One, which was reportedly placed temporarily out of commission earlier this month due to security concerns.
