Trump: US attacked Kharg Island last night, may reinstate blockade of Iranian ports

US President Donald Trump says he may reinstate the American blockade of Iranian ports, in what would mark a further collapse of the memorandum of understanding that Washington inked with Tehran last month.
“They may put down the blockade. We may put it back… It’ll only be a blockade for Iran. Anybody else can have whatever they want,” Trump tells reporters, before acknowledging that Iran may respond by dropping mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
As part of the MOU, the US agreed to lift the blockade that it put in place during the war in response to Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump is asked again about another US attack on Iran tonight and he says he’ll probably give the go ahead and has no problem saying so publicly because “There’s not a thing they can do about it.”
While he has previously claimed that the US has knocked out Iran’s navy, he now says that Tehran still has small boats that are dropping mines in the Strait of Hormuz, before claiming that they were taken out in last night’s US attack.
He again claims that the US is holding off on attacking civilian infrastructure sites in Iran but that he could authorize their targeting as well.
Trump says that the US even targeted Kharg Island in last night’s attack, but refrained from bombing the oil infrastructure there. That claim has not immediately been verified.
“Maybe we’ll take over Kharg Island,” he wonders aloud. “There may be a big attack, and it’ll knock out a lot of stuff.”
Trump says Iran asked for a “timeout” from negotiations in order to hold funeral proceedings for its slain supreme leader Ali Khamenei. “They also asked that we not kill them” during the funeral, Trump claims.
He calls on Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to detail what was hit in last night’s US attack on Iran.
Hegseth says targets included the boats Iran was using to harass vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, underground missile and drone storage sites and radar systems. He makes no mention of a purported attack on Kharg Island.
“If we need to, on your order, Mr. President, we will hit even more, and even deeper,” Hegseth says, revealing that Trump hasn’t actually signed off yet on an another attack for tonight.
