US Vice President JD Vance claims that there are “elements within Israel” that like the deal that Washington reached yesterday with Iran “quite a bit.”
The memorandum of understanding — which has yet to be released — has been harangued by Israeli politicians from across the spectrum.
Vance says in a CNBC interview that some of the criticism has to do with reliance on “misreporting” from Iranian state media, which the vice president claims is mischaracterizing the agreement in order to sell it to a domestic audience.
Vance says the text of the MOU will hopefully be released later this week and that those now doubting it will then realize that it makes the region safer.
He compares the new deal to the nuclear agreement signed in 2015 by former US president Barack Obama, claiming that Gulf countries hated that accord. In contrast, Vance claims that Gulf countries are now heralding the newly inked MOU. It’s unclear what praise from Gulf countries Vance is referring to.
Vance insists that the deal with Iran will create a “new Middle East” in which “Israel is going to have a seat at the table.”
