Madonna announced on Wednesday the addition of a second performance, a “Concert for Peace,” to her Israel tour in May.
The international music star has invited peace organizations to the May 31 show to honor those working toward peace in the Middle East. Details about which organizations will participate are expected soon. Her first concert is scheduled for two days earlier.
“Music is so universal and if there’s any chance that through my performance I can bring further attention and enlightenment to honor the peace efforts in the Middle East and help people come together, it would be an honor for me. It is my way of thanking those who are making so much effort toward bringing peace to the Middle East,” Madonna said.
Madonna, who is currently rehearsing for her world tour, made her announcement days before her new “MDNA” album is scheduled for global release on March 26.
Madonna has visited Israel several times in the past decade, most recently for her 2009 Sweet and Sticky tour. She was greeted by President Shimon Peres at his official residence during her 2007 visit and declared herself an “ambassador of Judaism.” Despite her famed interest in Kabbalah, or Jewish mysticism, Madonna is not Jewish.
