New Wiesenthal Center app combats hate websites

Los Angeles County Sheriff says the Digital Terrorism and Hate app can help his department monitor thousands of websites

(JTA) — The Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles introduced an application to monitor hate websites.

The center’s Digital Terrorism and Hate app, which was released Monday, monitors and shuts down hate-mongering pages and forums on social media websites such as Facebook and YouTube.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca said the app can help his department monitor thousands of websites.

Along with the app, the center released the Wiesenthal Center Report on Digital Terrorism and Hate, which tracks websites, videos and games that promote ethnic-, religion- or sexuality-based hate.

The center has given Facebook an A grade for the way it polices hate. YouTube received a much lower grade.
