Argentina marks soccer win with Hebrew translate fail

South American nation’s social media account tries to announce ascension to World Cup final, instead says, ‘We are finished’

While Argentina’s soccer team had a resounding win on Tuesday evening, the country’s official social media team had something of a Google Translate fail while posting about the victory.

Lionel Messi guided his team to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Croatia, booking a place in the World Cup final.

The official Argentina Twitter account tweeted, “We are finalists” in a number of languages — or so they thought…

Instead the account tweeted in Hebrew, “We are finished,” which was presumably not the intention.

It was unclear why Hebrew was chosen as one of the ten languages featured in the tweet.

Israel’s national team has not qualified for a World Cup since 1970.

France and Morocco are set to face off on Wednesday evening in the second semifinal, with the winner of that game meeting Argentina on Sunday night for the final battle of the tournament.

Whoever ends up winning the Jules Rimet trophy may want to brush up on their foreign language skills before posting on social media.
